If you work at the vertical bow you can shoot better, more accurate, than just about all the guys that shoot and hunt with crossbows. HUNTING, is still hunting and that success is about so much more than the weapon you choose. The crossbow is in no way a crutch or easy way out. If you don't want to work at it and think you can just grab it and go your wrong and the game you will pursue deserves better. The vertical bow can provide great enjoyment in shooting and all that goes with it and its art if you have the desire and time. The tool that you have not picked up since last season and still allows you to enjoy the woods and the opportunity to hunt. Its the tool that will allow you to get up in the morning and say I am going hunting today. If life has you by the balls and time is your challenge like it is for many of us and you currently dont have time to shoot your guns as much as you desire then get a crossbow. Shooting a bow is MUCH more physical and difficult to master and become proficient at. The bottom line is if you have the time to practice, I mean really practice and embrace the sport of vertical archery. Honestly shooting a deer at 20 yards with a 400 fps crossbow or a 300 fps crossbow gets you NOTHING, NOTHING at all so you have to look at your application and need so not to get trapped in the marketing hype. You have to do your homework and understand the features and what you are getting and not getting. Be careful if you go the crossbow route as there is a lot of junk and cheap china shit out there made and sold by companies that don't have a clue. Crossbows are in no way easier to hide behind or move at the time of the shot than a vertical bow either. YES a crossbow is going to be heavier than a compound bow! Does it not have a stock and scope which a bow does not? "Heavy as a rifle", so does that mean rifle hunting is bad or something? With the crossbow the things you will hear guys say and compare is mainly personal thoughts and experiences from not understanding the weapon in general and from the crossbow "they" purchased. While the choice over which platform is personal they are what the are and when compared to one another will never be equal yet many like to attempt to compare them for some dumb ass reason. Your going to kill by hemorrhage and not shock so shot placement is more critical with an arrow. First you need to understand your in ARCHERY and with an arrow you need to get close to your game and your tactics need to reflect that. At the end of the day the crossbow offers no advantage from a harvest or recovery stand point over a vertical bow. As a crossbow industry professional for the last 25 years and former collegiate archer I would be more than happy to help and factually inform you. WHATEVER and thats bullshit! Hunting with a crossbow by NO means is like riding a moped or means your a pussy.
